]]>Luxuriously comfortable
When customers stop by to test drive our natural pillows they’re surprised by how luxuriously comfortable kapok is. It has to do with its down-like loft. A pillow made from this ultra-light, silky-soft fiber can be easily scrunched, folded and shaped. Then, it slowly recovers its loft much like a feather pillow. But unlike feathers, kapok repels moisture and dust-mites -- two important features that will help you sleep allergen-free.
Chemical-free
Another comfort feature you’ll really like about kapok pillows: they’re chemical-free. You can sleep without worrying about breathing in toxins from flame retardants or other harmful chemical finishes. Kapok is hand-harvested from seed pods of the Kapok Tree, which grows in the wild. The fiber is protected in its pod from the elements and naturally contains a bitter substance that keeps pests away. Kapok fiber is clean and pure straight out of its pod – it requires no chemical processing when used for pillow stuffing.
Adjustable and Renewable
Kapok pillows come in a variety of lofts (pillow thickness) making it easy to get the right support and comfort you desire. Choose from light, medium, heavy or adjustable lofts. One of our most popular styles is the adjustable kapok by Suite Sleep. This pillow allows you to adjust the amount of fiber whenever you want. Remove fiber if it feels too thick or overstuffed and add fiber to renew your pillow when it compresses over time. Read more about how-to choose the right pillow.

Organic Wool
A layer of organic wool batting sandwiched into the cover of our Little Lamb Natural Latex Mattresses helps your child:
Natural Latex
A mattress made of at least 95% natural latex (real foam rubber with no synthetic fillers) such as our Little Lamb kid’s bed provides your child with:
Does your child have a latex allergy? We suggest consulting with your allergist for advice before purchasing a natural latex mattress. Some customers who are mildly allergic are still able to sleep on a natural latex mattress as long as they have someone else handle the “raw” latex layers and zip on the cover. Once the mattress is encased and made-up with bedding you are well shielded. If you have a serious reaction to natural latex we recommend going with an organic cotton innerspring mattress instead.
]]>Which organic waterproof crib mattress pad is best for your baby?
Our organic baby bedding collection includes several types of organic waterproof mattress pads; each one is made from certified organic natural fibers and inert waterproof protection. All of these pads do a great job at moisture control. Choose the best one for your baby based on your material preference, how it feels and your budget.
Why do you need a crib mattress pad?
We highly recommend an organic waterproof pad to protect your non-waterproof crib mattress. Some of our customers double-up on pads for extra protection, i.e. a fitted Naturepedic Organic Cotton Waterproof Pad with an Organic Wool Moisture Pad.
Even if you have a crib mattress with a waterproof finish it is a good idea to use a crib mattress pad. The mattress pad provides absorbency and helps manage moisture (i.e. leaking diaper, spit up, drooling, etc.). It helps prevent irritation to baby’s skin from exposure to a pool of moisture.

It’s important to give your body the best sleep possible. By shopping for chemical-free bedding, you’re well on your way to creating the perfect environment for a good night’s sleep.
There is something very comforting about percale sheets. Perhaps because they've been a staple for years or maybe it's the wonderful fresh scent I remember from drying them outdoors on the clothes line during a hot summer day.
The percale sheets we carry here at our shop are made by Coyuchi, a reputable manufacturer of GOTS certified organic cotton bedding who use fair-trade practices. They make an honest 220 and 300 thread count percale that's smooth to the touch yet strong and hard wearing.
These classic summertime sheets are easy to care for. Cold wash and warm tumble dry will do it. To reduce deep set wrinkles remove them from the drier just before they're completely dry and smooth flat over your bed. Or, hang outside to dry in the sunshine and enjoy!
]]>First, select a mattress pad style that suits your needs.
Organic mattress pads come in a variety of styles, all of which are compatible with innerspring and natural latex mattresses. Choose from:
Consider these tips when selecting a mattress pad style:
Know your mattress height before buying a fitted mattress pad as pocket depths can vary from brand to brand.
Select features such as quilted, stretch, flat or waterproofed, based on your personal likes and needs. For instance, some customers who sleep on a natural latex mattress prefer a knit pad because it hugs their mattress and gently moves with it. Others favor a quilted pad because they like the feel of the subtle padding. Parents with kids and/or pets opt for a waterproofed pad….just in case.
Next, choose a fiber: organic cotton or wool.
Customers often ask us which is better for a mattress pad, certified organic cotton or wool? Both provide excellent mattress protection. They breathe, absorb and wick moisture naturally, without the use of chemical coatings or synthetic materials. Choose from:
A mattress pad’s primary purpose is to guard against sweat and soiling. Place it directly on top of your mattress as a protective layer and cover it with your fitted bottom sheet.
]]>Many of our natural pillows come with a beautiful double-layer knit case. To clean your case, machine wash in cold and tumble dry low. Avoid high heat and long drying time. Stretch it a bit after it comes out of the dryer to regain the length.
Natural Latex
Natural latex pillows made of Dunlop or Talalay in any style are easy to care for.
Woolly Bolas
Like other natural fiber pillows, it’s important to keep your woolly bolas pillow protected from sweat and dust with a pillow protector and pillow case. Wash cases weekly. Put your wool pillow outside in the sunlight from time to time – it will help rid the fiber of residual moisture.
Can a woolly bolas pillow be washed and dried per the care instructions on the package? Yes, but we don’t recommend it. Why? I found washing changes the comfort of the pillow; the felted bolas bits swell, matt and clump, which results in a less springy texture than the before washed fiber. Even after spending much time and effort on teasing apart the fiber the bolas bits never resume their original shape and loft. Read more about how I washed my woolly bolas pillows.
Duck Down and Feather
We strongly recommend encasing your duck down pillow in a pillow protector and a pillow case to keep it free of moisture and dust. Wash your cases weekly to avoid dust mite build-up.
If washing your down pillow is absolutely necessary we suggest dry clean or home laundry only1 to 2 times per year. For machine wash follow these care instructions:
